General FAQs

Are the vehicles that INOVA is selling from repossessions?
In almost all cases the vehicle sold by INOVA come from repossession.

What is a repossessed vehicle?
There are two types of repossessed vehicle: voluntary and involuntary. As a car buyer you won’t know if the vehicle you are purchasing was a voluntary surrender repossession, or an involuntary repossession. Regardless, both are repo cars, which simply means their former owner could not meet their payment obligations to the lender.

Tips for buying a repossessed vehicle:

• History: Look over the vehicle’s service history and verify the seller is in possession of the title. Ensure the car’s mileage is correct and look for signs that the car’s been in an unreported accident or damaged by flooding. INOVA includes a Carfax report for all repossessed vehicles being sold but cannot guarantee the condition or history of any vehicle it sells.
• Market Value: There are many ways a vehicle’s market value is determined and there is no single correct value. However, there are reasonable ranges and there is no benefit to buying any vehicle that’s sold above its reasonable market value range. Research its value ahead of time. INOVA will always sell below J.D. Power Clean Retail Value, this is a widely accepted measure of vehicle's fair retail market value for our region.

Title FAQs

Will INOVA provide a clean title for the vehicles it sells?
INOVA will only sell vehicles with clean, unencumbered titles. We will not sell any vehicle with a branded title.

What is a branded title?
A branded title is a vehicle that has sustained significant damage; either mechanical, accident related, flood damage or otherwise. These vehicles are often repaired to become drivable however will always have significantly reduced value in the open market.

Will the title of the vehicle be branded simply because it is a repossession?
No, repossession of a vehicle does not change the title of a vehicle. If it had a clean title prior to repossession, it will still have a clean title.

Risk FAQs

Does the vehicle come with a warranty?

• INOVA does not provide any additional warranty at the time of sale, all vehicles are sold as-is with no added warranty, and all sales are final. However, some newer vehicles may still be covered by a remaining bumper-to-bumper and/or powertrain warranty. Refer to Carfax for warranty details.
• INOVA does encourage the purchase of a quality Major Mechanical Protection Program for any used vehicle, whether purchased from us or not. These policies can ensure that your household budget does not suffer a major expense in the event of a covered breakdown.  (See the “Financing” FAQ)

Are test drives allowed?
Yes, test drives are permitted with a valid driver’s license.

Are the vehicles inspected by a mechanic?
Although INOVA may have some vehicles repaired by a mechanic prior to sale, it is not our practice to request a full mechanical inspection. Potential buyers can inspect vehicles on-site or have a mechanic inspect it on-site. 

Is a Carfax provided?
In most cases a Carfax will be provided free of charge.

Purchase Offer FAQs

Can I submit an offer by calling in on the telephone?
No offers will be accepted without the buyer first seeing the vehicle in person. A buyer may submit a written and binding offer either in person or electronically, using our Binding Offer Form.

Financing FAQs

Can I get a car loan to purchase a repossessed car?
Yes, lenders typically have no reservations financing a vehicle simply because it is a repossession.

Will INOVA provide financing if I buy a car from you?
Yes, if you meet our underwriting standards and qualify for membership with INOVA FCU we can finance a vehicle purchased from INOVA. The vehicle purchased must also meet our underwriting guidelines. Click here for INOVA’s loan rates and terms.

Should I get preapproved for a car loan?
• Yes! We always recommend getting preapproved for an auto loan. A preapproval can help establish the maximum amount you should borrow and can give you leverage over other interested buyers who are not preapproved.

Do I need to make a down payment to be approved for an auto loan?
• No, a down payment isn't required to purchase a vehicle from INOVA. In some cases, however, it maybe required if you are financing the vehicle with us.

How can I tell what my payment will be before I agree to purchase a car?
• Click here to estimate your payment with a financial calculator. Bear in mind that using a financial calculator is merely an estimate of what your payment might be based on price, down payment, rate, and term. All applicants are subject to certain credit qualifications.
